HOUSTON – Sixteen minors were among 18 people injured Monday in a two-vehicle wreck in north Houston, Harris County Sheriff’s Office officials said.
It happened at about 3:30 p.m. in the 10,000 block of Gulf Bank near Beltway 8.
The driver of an extended day care passenger van from Alpha Kids’ Center collided with a pickup truck, deputies said. The children on board, all between the ages of 4 to 12, were returning from a field trip.
The injuries were described as minor and they were all transported to the hospital as a precaution.
Investigators said the van was overloaded with kids and the driver was ticketed for running a red light.
The van’s driver and the daycare owner were both charged with child endangerment.
