Raw: 4 dead after two fatal crashes in Illinois, 9-year-old victim

BELLEVILLE, Ill (KMOV.com) Belleville police are investigating two fatal crashes overnight on the stretch of Route 15 and Route 13 in the Metro-East.

Emergency crews were on the scene of an accident at 15th and Shrine around 8 pm Friday night.

Investigator say the roads were frozen between 157 and Charles Drive.

2 people were killed, one female and one male, in the two-car accident at 15th and Shrine.

Emergency crews also responded to a fatal two-car crash on Route 13 at the overpass over Route 15.

Investigators report one vehicle was occupied by 4 people. A 51-year-old male and a 9-year-old boy were pronounced dead at the scene.

The other 2 passengers were taken to SLU Hospital with critical injuries.

The other vehicle was occupied by one man who was taken to SLU Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

A Belleville police officer was injured in assisting one of the accidents. The officer was transported to SLU Hospital and is in stable condition.

Belleville police are investigating these accidents. No charges have been filed at this time.

Illinois State Police reported 10 major crashes and several other minor accidents around 8pm last night on Route 15 due to icy road conditions.
