ST. CHARLES, Mo (KMOV.com) - St. Charles Police arrested two St. Louis women, accused of stealing 40 cans of baby formula from a St. Charles Walmart last week.

Hattie Allen and Shameka Thomas are both charged with stealing.

St. Charles police say an officer pulled them over last week near the Walmart on Veterans Memorial Parkway. The car they were in matched a description reported to police the day before, after Walmart-Mart reported a shoplifting.

Court records show the officer found 40 cans of Enfamil baby formula in the car. Each can is worth about $15, retail.

A probable cause statement filed in court, says that Thomas admitted to stealing cans of formula off store shelves and hiding them in large purses.

Major Donovan Kenton says police learned the women planned to sell the stolen formula to small, neighborhood stores.

"There's some organization behind it. They have a place that they want to sell it to and probably that's predicated upon supply and demand... if those places need it. If not, it stores rather well on a shelf until they find a buyer for it," said Maj. Kenton.

Investigators planned to follow up with stores in another jurisdiction to determine if others could face charges of receiving stolen property.
