ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) – A neighbor found a woman dead inside a south St. Louis house early Wednesday morning.

According to officials, the fire started at a home in the 4000 block of Giles around 12:30 a.m.

Authorities said a neighbor said he smelled smoke in the street and went to check out the source. That’s when he opened up the front door of his neighbor’s home and saw flames.

He called firefighters, who arrived to the scene and found a 49-year-old woman unconscious inside the home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the fire appeared to be suspicious. Arson, bomb and homicide investigators are looking into the cause.
