(KMOV.com) – Flood warnings remain in effect for much of the News 4 viewing area as widespread showers continued late Friday and into Saturday.

Moderate to heavy rain precipitation moved into the region on Friday, swelling bodies of water and threatening some low-lying areas.

“The result will be standing water on local roads, so be prepared for that,” said News 4 Meteorologist Kent Ehrhardt.

With the prolonged periods of rain, some places saw accumulation of nearly 3 inches on Friday. Most areas are expected to receive 2-4" of rain by the end of the weekend.

Looking ahead, rain Saturday morning will shift to the northern portions of the News 4 viewing area.

Ehrhardt said there should be plenty of dry time for the St. Louis Metro area during the day.
