(KMOV.com) -- Continuing work on a major construction project is expected to cause traffic headaches this Easter weekend.
All lanes of Interstate 64 were closed between Forest Park Parkway and Hampton, starting at 8 p.m. Friday and lasting through the end of the weekend. MoDOT said crews will be moving underground utility lines across both directions of the highway.
During the shutdown, westbound drivers are being diverted to Kingshighway. Eastbound drivers follow a detour from Hampton to Interstate 44.
The closure is part of a project building a new interchange at Tower Grove and Boyle, along with replacing the bridges at Taylor and Newstead.
"We're trying to find that good weekend where we won't be affecting a mass amount of drivers that are coming down I-64, and we expect this weekend to be that weekend," said Deanna Venker, a MoDOT engineer.
According to MoDOT, the entire project will be completed by June of 2014.
