(KMOV.com) -- Some Metro-East residents are learning new skills and possibly a job thanks to a free Urban League program.
The Fairview Heights Urban League Chapter is working to provide 87 St. Clair residents with a 5 week training program in home repair courses.
Upon completion, the new workers will have up to four new certificates. Half of the people involved will then be hired by the Urban League to work in East St. Louis.
“Not difficult at all to get in the program,” said Frank Massey with Urban League, “I was referred by a friend. I took a couple tests. After that I was called. After I got the phone call they said, ‘Yea, come on in.’”
The Urban League said they are still taking applicants.
