(KMOV) -- Two suspects are in custody following an officer-involved shooting in north St. Louis County Tuesday evening.

According to a St. Louis County Police Sergeant, an officer spotted a driver not wearing a seat belt and failed to use their turn signal at the intersection of Chambers and Jeffery Drive around 4 p.m.

The officer attempted to perform a traffic stop when the vehicle turned into a driveway and the passenger got out.

As officers stopped, the male passenger started to run with a gun in his hand. Police say the suspect stopped at one point, faced the officers and pointed the gun in their direction.

One officer fired a shot at the suspect who was not hit. The suspect did not return fire.

Police say the suspect dropped his gun and ran until he was found a short time later hiding in a truck approximately two blocks away.

The female driver of the vehicle was taken into custody without incident at the scene.

The loaded gun was recovered by authorities who later determined it was a stolen weapon.

Police say the suspect is believed to have outstanding warrants including assaulting a police officer, auto theft and drug charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
