(KMOV.com) -- A Missouri state senator wants incompetent St. Louis Public School District teachers to be open for firing whether or not they have tenure.
State senator Jamilah Nasheed received first round approval for a bill that allows for the St. Louis Public School District to fire teachers who administrators believe are "incompetent."
Missouri law only allows for tenured teachers to be terminated for inefficiency, but not for incompetence.
The bill needs one more senate vote before going to the house.
The proposal would move the St. Louis Public School District in line with other districts in the state.
