(KMOV.com) -- Snow is still piled up on St. Louis streets, and crews are expected to work through the weekend to get roads back to normal.
"Right now, we have our inspectors looking for these areas with ponding water, where the water can't get to the inlets because the snow is blocking it," said Todd Waelterman, director of streets.
During the day, road crews are using shovels to remove extra water that could refreeze as temperatures drop. The street department has 50 plows and nearly 150 crew members working to clear local roadways.
"This morning we get up, and boom, it's all there," Waelterman said. "I am very proud of what this crew did."
Road crews in the city, county and Illinois say their biggest problem was cars getting stuck in snow on busy roadways, and even highways.
