(KMOV) – St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson has released a final proposal to redistrict the city’s police department.
The plan, posted on the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s website Monday night, involves consolidating the city’s current nine districts into six.
The current police map shows the city’s eighth police district is much smaller compared to districts two and six. Under the new plan, each area will be similar in size and contain the same number of officers and commanders when the redistricting happens.
Dotson says the changes are based on data research. He says the new areas will help his department keep residents safe.
Dotson is looking for feedback from the public. Anyone with questions or comments on the final draft is asked to go to the department's website.
