ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) -- St. Louis County road crews will pre-treat roads starting at 2:00am Thursday.

Road crews will start with residential subdivisions and then move to main roads.

Normal procedures would see the big roads hit first, but because of the timing of the snow the county said it feels better starting out with the residential areas.

The county said once the storm does hit, major roads like Hanley, Clayton, Forest Park Parkway and Shackleford will be the main focus.

“We have to keep those open for emergency responders,” said David Wrone of the County Highway Department, “We’ll get back to the residential streets when we can. But if it’s really, really bad and there’s ice everywhere, we’re just going to have to focus on the arterials.”

The county covers all residential streets in unincorporated St. Louis County – about one-third of the county’s population.

The county wants to stress that residential streets will be pre-treated by the time the storm hits.
