(KMOV.com) -- St. Louis County Police have an apartment complex surrounded Friday evening where they believe a home invasion suspect may be hiding.
St. Louis County Police reported just before noon Friday, two men broke into a home in Jennings, pistol-whipped a man inside the home and fled the scene.
Then 25 minutes later, police said an officer spotted the suspect’s car.
According to police, the officer chased the suspect and that driver hit speeds of 90 mph and even went the wrong way on a one-way street.
Police then reported the suspect pulled into the LaSalle Park Village Apartments where police believe there are two suspects hiding.
St. Louis County Police said they lost sight of the suspect when he ran into the apartment complex and it is surrounded in order to cut-off any possible escape route.
Officers and a K-9 unit have been sweeping the area searching for a suspect described as a black male in his teens or early 20s with a medium complexion, about 5’8” with short cropped hair. Police said he was not wearing a shirt when he ran from the scene. A description for the second suspect was not available.
Police said they are processing the car, a Pontiac with Illinois license plates. Police did find a gun inside the car, but no suspect is in custody.
“We cleared all public areas that suspect would have access to, which turned up negative,” said officer Jeffrey Fuesting, “There are a number of apartments that are locked and no one’s home. Unfortunately, we’re not allowed to go into their apartments right now. So we believe he may be in one of these locked apartments.”
Police said because they recovered a gun they do not believe the suspect is armed, but said it is possible the suspect has another weapon.
