(KMOV.com) -- The extreme heat has caused more than a dozen water main breaks around St. Louis in the past two days.

Crews with the St. Louis Water Department continue to work through Sunday night to fix the water mains as some residents have problems with water inside their homes.

“Crews are out 16 hours, relieving each other,” said Vincent Foggie with the St. Louis City Water Department.

Foggie said crews have been working since Thursday to fix the water mains, but the heat continues to destroy the aging water pipes.

As crews work from one neighborhood to the next, Foggie said many residents have been left with low water pressure.

“Right now, it’s down to where you can probably just get some water, fill up the bathtub. And we’ll keep the water flowing till we start the repairs,” said Foggie, “That’s when resident will be out of service.”
