(KMOV) – Residents in one south St. Louis neighborhood have decided to take thousands of dollars in tax payer money to make the area safer.

Residents in Ward 6 voted to take $100,000 of taxpayer money to improve safety, street lighting and surveillance cameras.

Alderwoman Christian Ingrassia told News 4 that surveillance cameras will be placed near the area of Park and Ohio Ave and in the Fox Park area. She says that those areas were chosen based on crime data.

The safety projects are slated to be up and running within the 2015 fiscal year.
