(KMOV) -- Frederick Buettner, a registered sexual predator, is still on the run, weeks after News 4 reported he'd gone off the grid.

"I just have a hard time going to sleep at night, because I think what if some other child is being harmed,” said Heather Claxton, the mother of one of Buettner’s victim.

On July 8, registered sexual predator Frederick Buettner walked away from an East St. Louis halfway house and hasn't been seen or heard from since

Buettner was convicted of repeated sexual assault on Claxton’s daughter when she was very young. He's also been found guilty of other crimes involving kids in Missouri.

Claxton first turned to us for help one week after he disappeared. Now, she can barely believe he's still not been caught---weeks later

"It is frustrating because every day he is out there is another day we have to worry,” she said.

“Is finding him a priority for you right now?” asked News 4 Reporter Lauren Trager. “Finding any absconder is a priority for the Illinois Department of Correction,” said spokesperson Tom Shaer.

Shaer said the hunt is very active especially in places where Buettner might be.

But he's not committed any more crimes, and the agency does not think he will harm anyone else, anytime soon.

“Not a threat to the public but that doesn't mean we don't want him back yesterday. Virtually all these guys are found, we'll get him,” Shaer said.

Claxton says she just hopes it's soon and in the meantime. “Watch your children closely because he's out there, he's out there,” she said.

We’ll of course continue to follow this until he's back behind bars.
