(KMOV.com) - After years of construction, a section of Tucker Boulevard just north of Washington Avenue is opening up in Downtown St. Louis.

The nearly $34 million project was supposed to be finished by the summer of 2011.  Construction started in 2010.

Crews had to demolish an old railroad-like tunnel underneath the bridge to compete the project. Delays in city funding and complications with utility work slowed the project down.

St. Louis Post Dispatch reports the city and the Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) will hold a ribbon cutting on Thursday at the corner of Cass Avenue and Tucker Boulevard.  The Tucker ramp off eastbound I-70 will then open.

The Tucker interchange is expected to be the major feeder to and from north Downtown St. Louis once the Stan Musial Memorial Bridge opens.
