(KMOV.com) -- The Missouri man who spent nearly a decade in prison for murder before his conviction was overturned has decided to move to Florida.

Ryan Ferguson was a teenage when found guilty of killing sports writer Kent Heitholt.

A few weeks ago, Ferguson’s conviction was thrown out after a judge ruled the prosecution withheld evidence from Ferguson’s defense team.

Ferguson is now 29-years-old met with his friends and family near Kansas City this weekend to say good-bye.

“I’m going to be heading down to Florida and getting a job down there and just trying to enjoy life and figure out my place in it,” said Ferguson, “So it’s going to take a little bit of time and a lot of work but we’re going to get there eventually.”

Ferguson said it is “incredibly important” to him to find out who really killed Heitholt.
