(KMOV.com) --  Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly shoplifted from a St. Louis county grocery store then fled Tuesday night.

Police responded to the scene for a report of shoplifting around 9 p.m. at the Schnucks store located on South Florissant Road.

Police say a man suspected of shoplifting was confronted by a security officer as he attempted to leave the store.

During the confrontation, the suspect struggled with the officer then fled to the parking lot. The officer chased the suspect until he was seen jumping into a vehicle.

The suspect allegedly pushed the female driver of that vehicle aside before fleeing. Police are not sure if the driver was an innocent bystander or an accomplice to the robbery.

The suspect sped off the parking lot in a maroon Ford Expedition. Police have only described the suspect as being a black male standing at approximately 6-foot-5 in height. He was seen wearing a Detroit Tigers jacket.

No one was injured during the incident.

Police are reviewing the surveillance footage and have activated a search for the suspect.
