(KMOV.com) -- A St. Louis County police officer is recovering with minor injuries after his patrol car was struck by a vehicle traveling the wrong way on interstate 70. The collision shut down the highway around 12:00 a.m. Saturday.

Police say the collision occurred on I-70 near Lucas and Hunt after a suspect entered the highway going the wrong way at Natural Bridge and 170. The suspect fled the scene after hitting the officer’s vehicle.

The officer was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Police say the officer has been released. However, the suspect is currently on the loose.

Police believe this wrong-way collision may have been the cause of a second accident involving a bus and an SUV. This accident caused minor injuries.

Police are investigating the second accident and actively pursuing the suspect. A vehicle description has not been made available.
