O’FALLON, Ill. (KMOV) -- Police in O’Fallon, Illinois say two people are in custody after they found an apparent methamphetamine lab near an elementary school.
Police said the responded to the home around 8 a.m. Wednesday following reports of domestic violence.
Authorities said they searched the home and found stolen property, including power tools. Officers then searched the attic and discovered what appeared to be a meth lab.
Police said two people were arrested and taken to jail. Authorities said they planned to file manufacturing meth charges, but said it could take weeks to be filed as they await results from tests on the chemicals and equipment.
Authorities seized all the evidence at the scene.
Investigators say the alleged lab was set up in a house across the street from Marie Schaefer Elementary School.
Teachers kept students inside the school while police removed the potentially dangerous chemicals from the house.
