ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A local family came forward on Saturday, saying the baby boy found abandoned in a Breckenridge Hills apartment complex early Friday morning belongs to them. The family said the mother of the infant, however, is missing.

Ebony Jackson has been identified as the possible mother of the child. Jackson, who has family in St. Louis, is believed to have left Oklahoma with the child sometime last week.

According to authorities, an Oklahoma man traveled to the St. Louis area Saturday morning to identify the baby and take a paternity test. The test will not be able to be administered until Monday when the courts are open.

Police officials are calling this their best lead yet in the case, but are hesitant to say they have the right family.

On Friday morning, a child believed to be less than a year old was found secured in a child safety seat inside an apartment building.
The boy was transported to DePaul Hospital as a precaution. He is expected to be okay.

Police departments across Missouri are now looking for Jackson's car. The vehicle is described as a white 2004 Mitsubishi Gallant with Colorado plates.
The family says Jackson would never just leave her child and the situation is dire.

“She could never abandon that baby,” Jackson’s aunt, Ollie Mosley said. “Someone has taken her. Someone has her. We just want to know she’s okay, she’s alive.”
