(KMOV.com) -- The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a hit-and-run accident that sent a 9-year-old boy to the hospital in critical condition.

St. Clair Police said the boy was struck by the car while riding his bike in the 2400 block of Lorraine near Cahokia Thursday around 12:30 p.m.

Witnesses described the possible vehicle as either a late 90s silver or gray Pontiac Grand Am or Grand Prix or a Chevrolet Malibu. Witnesses also described the driver of the vehicle as a black male wearing a white t-shirt.

“We are asking for the public’s help in determining what happened,” said Sheriff Richard Watson, “And who may be involved.”
