(KMOV.com) -- St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department has identified the remains found in a septic tank in rural northeast St. Francois County.
Officials said the remains were identified as 38-year-old Samuel “Tick” Francis of Cape Girardeau.
Police said Francis was last seen outside a residence in Desloge, Mo., on December 23, 2012 and was reported missing on December 23.
The remains were identified by dental records late Friday morning, according to officials.
Francis’ disappearance and death are being investigated as a homicide.
Police discovered the remains Thursday on an unoccupied property on Highway K, located northeast of Bonne Terre around 12 p.m.
Authorities said the body’s discovery was the result of a seven-month missing person investigation.
Bonne Terre is located about 50 miles southwest of St. Louis.
