Police arrest suspect in connection with shooting death in north St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left one person dead in north St. Louis Monday. 

Police arrested 40-year-old Germone Cunningham after Corwin Bates, 28, of the 5500 block of Sunbury, was found dead in the 10500 block of Riverview around 9:15 p.m. Police say he sustained a gunshot wound to the head. 
 
Police say Cunningham is charged with murder andr unlawful use of a weapon after officers saw him discard a handgun. 
 
During an investigation, the suspect told police he and Bates, who is his cousin, were involved in a robbery when one of the victim’s shot Bates. The suspect then took police to Bates’ body off of the road. Police say Bates appeared to have been dead for several hours. 
 
Officials say the suspect provided conflicting statements about the incident and warrants will be applied today. 
 
The investigation is ongoing.
