(KMOV.com) – Authorities said two police officers were taken to a hospital with chemical burns after they tried to bust a meth lab near East Alton.

Police said someone called authorities after seeing two suspicious people carrying a black bag while walking over a levy near Wood River Creek.

Officers responded to the scene and found what looked like a portable meth lab. They tried arresting the suspects, who then threw chemicals at the officers.

Police said one officer was burned in the face while the other suffered upper-body burns.

Both officers were taken to the hospital, but later released.

The suspects are currently in custody.
