(KMOV) – A robbery suspect was shot during an officer-involved shooting in a north St. Louis City neighborhood.
It began at the police station on Jefferson Avenue around 5:40 p.m.
An employee of a market, just steps away, frantically ran up to an officer saying their boss was being held up at gunpoint.
Officers jumped into action, first chasing the suspect in a car, then pursuing on foot. But the suspect had a gun, and according to witnesses, fired off several shots at the officers.
Detectives say the officers had no choice but to shoot back, hitting the suspect several times near Palm and Spring.
He’s stable at an area hospital. No officers were hurt.
The store owner was taken to the police station for interviews.
“It is a bold thing to do, the police station is just around the corner it’s a half minute work so to go into a business and execute a robbery is a bold thing to do,” said Captain Michael Sak.
This is the third officer-involved shooting in two days, two in the city and one in St. Louis County.
Detectives told News 4 it’s a dangerous job and they have a right to defend themselves.
