(KMOV.com) – Webster Grove Police issued an alert after a teenager told authorities a man has followed her on more than one occasion as she walked home from school.

Authorities said the girl reported a man in a white van would follow her and occasionally honk or drive by slowly near the intersection of Big Bend and Selma.

She said most recently he slowed down, stuck his head out the window and smiled at her. She told her parents and they called authorities.

Police say the man, believed to be in his 20s, never stopped the van and never said anything to the girl. The van reportedly did not have a front license plate.

Investigators don't think a law was broken, but they say this is a reminder to talk to kids about being aware of their surroundings and and keep an eye out for anything suspicious.
