(KMOV) – Eight people were arrested and seven children were placed in state custody after a meth lab was busted in St. Francois County.

The lab was located by authorities within a block from an elementary school on Spruce Street in Bismarck.

When authorities arrived, a woman came out and officers say they got a whiff of chemicals as she opened the door.

According to police, eight people were found inside along with meth-making materials, several one-pot meth labs and a sawed-off shotgun.

Seven kids between the ages of 5 and 13 were also inside the home while the reported drugs were being cooked.

The adults were charged with a number of drug offenses including manufacturing meth within 2,000 feet of a school and child endangerment.
