(KMOV) – Four people were left hospitalized following a night riddled with shootings during the welcoming of the New Year in St. Louis city.
Among the celebration, authorities responded to three shootings in the St. Louis area Tuesday night and into the New Year.
Two of the injured were reportedly shot in a South City neighborhood, according to authorities.
A neighbor, Glen Cunningham, says he awoke to the sound of gunshots just about two and a half hours past midnight on New Year’s Day.
“I didn’t look, I just jumped up and I said…someone still shooting at 2:22 a.m. in the morning…you thought they were fireworks…yes.”
Down the street from Cunningham’s apartment, located on the 4300 block of McRee, broken glass from a car window and bandage wrappers left behind by EMT could be seen.
Two men were shot by an unknown suspect while seated in their vehicle.
Both victims were transported to an area hospital and reportedly treated for multiple gunshot wounds to the neck, arm, leg, and hip. They are listed in serious/stable condition.
Shortly before the New Year rang in, a 29-year-old man was found in the driver’s seat of a car along Bircher Boulevard near Interstate 70 with several gunshot wounds to the leg and torso, police said.
Police say the man refused to cooperate in their investigation.
The earliest incident occurred a few hours before midnight on Broadway in far South City.
The shooting happened after the victim and the suspect, who are cousins, were arguing over money.
According to authorities, the victim walked to a bust stop following the argument. However, the suspect pulled up to the bus stop in a car and fired several shots, hitting the victim in the leg.
The suspect has been identified and was entered as “wanted” by authorities.
All three investigations remain ongoing.
