ST. LOUIS -- The Missouri Department of Transportation has delayed a planned closure of Interstate 64 in downtown St. Louis until the weekend of February 1-4.
MoDOT crews plan to close the interstate between Kingshighway and Forest Park Parkway in both directions starting next Friday, February 1. The highway is expected to reopen at 3 a.m. February 4.
Crews were forced to postpone the closures as they would not be able to complete necessary striping for the project due to projected precipitation in Sunday’s forecast.
The shutdown is necessary because MoDOT is removing two bridges over the interstate, at Taylor and Newstead avenues. Plans call for both bridges to be rebuilt.
Westbound drivers will need to exit at Forest Park Avenue and follow a detour to Kingshighway, which will then take them back to the interstate.
Eastbound drivers will exit at Hampton Avenue, go to Interstate 44, and continue east that way.
