Autistic boy hospitalized after being struck by vehicle in North County

(KMOV.com) -- A 13-year-old autistic child was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in north St. Louis County early Friday morning.

 

Authorities said a man was driving a red Chevy Impala on northbound Lucas and Hunt near Interstate 70 just before 3 a.m. when he struck the boy.

The child was taken to the hospital with a broken jaw and head injuries and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The driver stopped at the scene and was being cooperative with police. He told authorities ht was dark and by the time he saw the child it was too late.

Authorities said the Northwoods child has an extensive history of walking away from his home. He was struck only a few blocks from where he lives.

No charges were expected in the case.

The investigation is ongoing.
