6 hospitalized after suspect opens fire while driving, rams two cars in East St. Louis

(KMOV.com) – East St. Louis police were on the scene of an incident outside the offices of School District 189 Friday.

Officers responded to calls of shots fired, and when they arrived on scene, they encountered a two vehicle accident.

According to police, a suspect was driving his vehicle when he opened fire on a man. While driving and shooting, the suspect reportedly lost control and rammed into two other vehicles. 

Two adults and three children were in the cars hit by the shooter. All five victims were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening. 

The shooting victim was taken to the hospital, and his condition is unknown. Whethre or not the victim and the gunman knew each other hasn't been determined. 

After the crash, the suspect fled the scene. Police are currently searching for him.
