(KMOV.com) -- Missouri Governor Jay Nixon is speaking up after the Normandy School District announced it was not going to pay some of its bills for transfer students.
Nixon took part in a closed door meeting with members of the Cooperating School District Friday.
Thursday, the Normandy School Board voted not to pay the transportation or tuition costs for students who transferred out of the district because of budget constraints.
Nixon said the issue is significant, but believes all issues can be worked out.
Normandy also plans to lay-off more than 100 teachers and close Bel Nor Elementary School in December.
