ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – New information is available about the criminal investigation into the Michael Brown shooting. Craig Cheatham talked to St. Louis Police Chief Jon Belmar about Officer Darren Wilson and the use of tear gas during protests.

Belmar defended the use of tear gas.

"We had an element in the crowd that was dangerously spinning out of control," Belmar said.

Belmar said police debated going into the crowd and pursuing people causing trouble but he said that strategy was viewed as more dangerous to police and some demonstrators.

Belmar also said St. Louis County police have interviewed Officer Darren Wilson twice, including a lengthy interview the day after Brown was shot.
