(KMOV) -- For much of 2013, News 4 has been examining the issue of violent crime committed by young offenders in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
Viewers are familiar with reports of what can seem like an unending barrage of shootings. The victims often are innocents, including children, literally caught in the crossfire. The question is often asked, “Why is this happening?”
In “A Vicious Cycle”, investigative reporter, Craig Cheatham offers revealing answers. Viewers will see, first hand, the impact of violent crime on its victims and the community as a whole, and on the offenders themselves, and explore the economic and societal conditions that contribute to the formation of violent youth.
You will hear unflinching, personal accounts from family members of both victims and offenders, and from several current and former offenders.
Also, viewers will “ride along” with law enforcement officers on both sides of the river, seeing in real-time the challenges they face on a daily basis.
Finally, an unbiased look at innovative programs underway in some of the area’s most troubled neighborhoods, working to break the cycle of violence by offering support to former offenders and others considered at high risk for falling into a life of crime and violence.
