MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- Illinois State Police say a man is in custody after they found more than three pounds of methamphetamine during a traffic stop near Troy.

Julian Moreno, 31, is being held in the St. Clair County Jail pending federal drug trafficking charges.

Officials say on September 9 around 12 a.m., a trooper stopped a silver SUV on northbound I-55 for improper lane usage. Authorities said the trooper was suspicious of criminal activity and asked to search the vehicle.

The officer, along with a K-9, were given permission and searched the vehicle.

The K-9 detected the presence of an illegal substance and deputies located three cellophane-wrapped bundles with 3.6 pounds of methamphetamine.

Moreno was a passenger in the vehicle. An immigration detainer was issued for Moreno, the driver and another passenger in the vehicle.

They are being held in Madison County pending possible deportation by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
