(KMOV) -- Two locations of Interstate 64 in Chesterfield are closing down starting Friday night and lasting through the weekend.

As a result of the bridge work being performed, MoDOT said Chesterfield Valley will be “exceptionally congested” because of drivers following detours while the interstate is shut down.

One of the weekend closures is happening because the five-lane Chesterfield Parkway West Bridge is being brought down.  MoDOT said a new eight-lane bridge is needed near the Chesterfield city government building to accommodate new corporate developments going up.

"It's gonna be really hectic around here, and I think it'll really irritate a lot of my coworkers because a lot of us catch the bus.  So no highway, it'll be hard to get out this way,” said Tyrone George, who rides the bus to Chesterfield from St. Louis for work.

The other section of I-64 that will be closed down will be at the Old Chesterfield Airport Road Bridge.  I-64 at both locations should be re-opened by 5 a.m. Monday April 7th.

All the construction work will no doubt impact booming business in that area.  At Scarecrow restaurant, staff said the construction kept customers away on a usually busy Friday night, and they’re not quite sure what the weekend will bring.

"I hope it increases traffic,” bartender Cassie Hefner says about the detours that could bring more traffic by the restaurant. “It might slow us down, but it could be pretty busy,” she adds.

MoDOT said they’ve been letting businesses know about all the changes and giving them alternate routes to pass along to customers.
