(KMOV.com) – Metro has posted signs threatening to eliminate two St. Louis-area bus stops unless people stop littering at them.

Metro posted signs with warnings at stops near the intersection of Wydown and Westwood in Clayton and north of Weil and Laclede Station in Shrewsbury.

Officials told News 4 it believes too many riders are making a mess at both stops, and will eliminate stops only as a last resort.

“We post (the signs) when we get a number of complaints, not normally if one person called in and said 'hey there is a piece of trash,'” said Metro spokesperson Patti Beck.

Metro has eliminated three bus stops over the past two years because of trash problems.
