ALTON – Police say a 77-year-old Godfrey man was attacked by a neighbor after trying to warn him about a potential problem with a leaky faucet on Tuesday.

Gerry E. LeClaire, 37, was charged with aggravated battery.

According to police, the victim and his wife were walking near LeClaire’s home in the 1300 block of White Oak Trail around 7 p.m. when they noticed an outdoor water faucet at the home was spraying water.

Police said the victim, who is acquainted with LeClaire’s family, walked up to the home to let the family know of the problem.

Authorities say as the victim was talking to the LeClaire’s mother, LeClaire came out of the home armed with pliers. He then started cursing at the man and asking why he was there.

That’s when he hit the victim on the arm with the pair of pliers, according to police. Authorities said the victim suffered cuts and bruises.
