(KMOV.com) -- Some tires are melting because of the heat and the debris is causing chaos for other drivers on the road.

Amber Buckley and her family were in a car accident Wednesday when the windshield was shattered by a piece of flying debris on I-270.

“It was a car in front of us it swerved on the shoulder,” said Buckley, “We followed suit as we did that a piece of tread came flying underneath his car and smashed right into the passenger side window.”

She said repairs cost $200.00 and Buckley said the cost is just too high.

“We’re out of money for having to fix it. MoDot is not going to take care of it, said Buckley.”

MoDot is responsible for keeping the highway clean, and they did not know about the debris on I-270 Wednesday. They said people should report trash on the road immediately so crews can quickly clean it up.
