(KMOV) – A man accused of robbing a bank in Clayton was found dead days later in a St. Louis hotel.

Authorities said Joseph Medearis entered the Fifth Third Bank on the 8200 block of Maryland Avenue just before 2 p.m. on July 29 and demanded money from the teller.

After the teller turned over an undisclosed amount of money, Meadearis fled the bank.

Police identified Meadearis using surveillance photos and he was later pointed out by witnesses in a photo line-up.

But authorities said he was found dead inside a St. Louis hotel on July 30. The medical examiner had not yet determined the cause of death.

Meadearis was convicted for robbing the Commerce Bank near the intersection of Clayton and Demun. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for that crime.
