(KMOV.com) – Police said a St. Charles man tried to steal the Social Security number of a woman from Georgia so he could improve his credit score.
Crestwood Police Detective Jason Balsman said Peter Fahcaro, 53, of St. Charles stole a Social Security number of a Georgia woman and tried to pass it off as his own to get a loan.
Police said Fahcaro used three different names on three different occasions at One Main Financial in Watson Plaza. Fahcaro was allegedly close to getting a $3500 loan until an associate saw something suspicious.
Fahcaro claimed to police that he was going to merge the Social Security numbers with his in order to get a better credit rating.
Crestwood Police are not the only ones investigating Fahcaro for identity theft. Wentzville and St. Peters Police may also be looking into cases linked to Fahcaro.
Fahcaro allegedly purchased the Social Security numbers online. Police cannot say which online company was selling stolen identification cards, but Det. Balsman said the internet is making it easy for such information to get out.
If Fahcaro is convicted, he could face up to seven years in prison for identity theft.
