(KMOV) – An employee of an Alabama-based Communications Company has been hospitalized after he was allegedly stabbed by his co-worker multiple times.

According to police, Sander Surber, 29, and two other co-workers of a communications company were working on a cell phone tower in north St. Louis County when Surber overheard he was going to lose his job. After hearing the news, he pulled out a knife and began attacking the other workers.

“Apparently the suspect in this and the victims didn't get along and they work together and what not,” said Brian Schellman, St. Louis County Police, Media Relations Officer. “I don't know if the guy was going to get kicked off the crew or be asked to leave, but one thing lead to another.”

Police say Surber at first used his fists, but then pulled out a utility knife, cutting one of the other men in the abdomen and twice in the arm.

“Confrontations happen all the time and you never know who has what on them,” Schellman said. “It could have been a gun, it was a knife in the instance, could have been a number of things.”

The attack, which happened Thursday, was near the St. Louis County Public Works facility. A worker at the facility saw the bloody victim and called police. Surber was then taken into custody.
