(KMOV.com) The St. Louis Zoo is set to begin construction on a new polar bear exhibit that will close down the penguin exhibit for the next two years.
While the penguin exhibit is not part of the remodel, the construction project will block visitor access to the penguin habitat. The penguin and puffin population will not be seen while crews work on the $18 million renovations to the polar bear exhibit.
The construction project is set to begin on Tuesday making Labor Day Monday the last day to see the penguin exhibit until 2015. The zoo’s hours for the day are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
