SALEM, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Salem police confirm a large fire ripped through a charcoal plant north of town on Thursday night.
Police say the fire started at the Royal Oak Charcoal Plant near Highway 19 and Highway JJ around 9 p.m.
Half a dozen fire departments, including Rolla, St. James, Montauk, Dent County, and Lenox reported to the scene to contain the blaze.
The fire was burning in a large production facility building filled with "ready light" charcoal. This type of charcoal is primed with a flammable agent to make it catch fire more quickly.
The blaze was under control as of Friday morning.
No injuries have been reported.
