KIRKWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Kirkwood police say officers checking out a panhandler discovered the man was wanted in connection to a sexual assault.

Authorities say five men were asking for money at Big Bend and Holmes early Sunday morning when officers decided to run criminal checks on the men. Officers then reportedly discovered one of the men was wanted for questioning in connection to a St. Louis County sexual assault case.

According to police, the incident serves as a reminder for residents to be careful.

Kirkwood authorities told News 4 they handed the panhandler over to another area police department.
