(KMOV) – A St. Louis jury was unable to reach a verdict in the case of two men who were accused of fatally shooting an innocent bystander.

The jury said they could not agree on the charges against Ronnie Mottley, 21, and Bernard Dorris, 22, for first degree murder and armed criminal action.

According to police, on March 17, 2011, 39-year-old Patrice Thimes was driving along Page near Euclid when she was shot in the head.  Police said two groups of people were shooting at each other and Thimes was caught in the crossfire.

Police arrested Mottley, Dorris and another man a few days after the shooting. All three men were charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action.

Defense attorneys say a witness lied to police about the event.
