CHICAGO -- The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office says state Sen. Donne Trotter has been charged with a felony for allegedly trying to board an aircraft with a weapon.
Spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said Wednesday that the Chicago Democrat was charged with a Class 4 felony. Simonton wouldn’t reveal any more information. Trotter is expected in Cook County bond court on Thursday.
Trotter recently announced that he would run for U.S. Congress, seeking the seat vacated by former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. Trotter previously ran for Congress in 2000.
Messages left for Trotter seeking comment were not immediately returned.
The 62-year-old served in the Illinois House from 1988 to 1993. Since then he has been a member of the Illinois Senate.
