(KMOV) – The Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge opened to drivers at the beginning of February but many drivers are wondering why the bridge remains unmarked and is not seen on all GPS devices.
News4 spoke with Joe Monroe from IDOT who said that signs will not be put up alerting drivers to get into a certain lane to take the new bridge. According to Monroe, I-70, much like the Poplar Street Bridge which uses I-64, is a main route. He said that there are specific signs for the Eads, MLK and McKinley bridges because drivers must get off of the interstate to use those bridges.
Monroe also told News4 that he contacted all GPS companies before the bridge opened so that drivers could be routed over it. So far, Waze, Google Maps and Mapquest all use the new bridge while Garmins and OnStar have not added it.
News4’s Laura Hettiger spoke with an OnStar representative who said that the bridge could take a few months to show up on their software.
